A portable pain relief deck that leverages movements the body is already familiar with to ease tension, promote mindfulness, and assist in managing chronic pain.

This card deck will help users develop resilience and awareness that allows them to manage discomfort even on the most difficult days. Plus, it can go anywhere and be used at any time: in the morning, in the evening before bed, during the workday, or whenever you need some relief. Users will select three to four cards a day, which focus on different areas of the body, and by adopting this practice and sticking with it, they may begin to live with less pain, enjoy their favorite activities, and become more present in their lives. The deck will consist of 55 cards divided into seven color-coded categories: green for extension, yellow for flexion, purple for side-bending, orange for rotation and full body, gray for awareness practice, pink for extremity work, and blue for the wild cards.

 
ABOUT THE AUTHOR(S)

Martha Peterson, CHSE, CCSE, received her certification in Hanna Somatic (Clinical Somatic) Education from the Novato Institute. She holds a BA in dance education, and a certification in Massage Therapy from the National Holistic Institute in Oakland, CA. Martha is the founder and CEO of Essential Somatics® and a leader in the field of somatic education. Martha has over 30 years of experience working with professionals in the field of dance, bodywork, and somatics. She discovered clinical (Hanna) somatic education after suffering chronic hip and knee pain due to injuries after years of dancing professionally. For Martha, restoring the skill of self-sensing is the key to a life of movement, mastery, and joy. She maintains a private clinical practice in Manitou Springs, Colorado.
